I am officially done with T25!
I think I've talked more about this program than any other one I've done. Maybe it's because this is the greatest commitment I've ever felt. Could be because it's the longest-length of time (but not in workout time!!) -- 14 weeks of WORK!
Could be because I love it just so much.
Let's be real: not every day and not all the time, but 85--maybe even 90%--of the time, I was genuinely happy to be doing the workouts! And not just counting the seconds until it's over. ;)
This is the most cardio I've done in a while, and certainly the longest I've gone without consistently using weights--just two or three of the workouts in the last four weeks uses dumbbells, so it's been an adjustment and I got a LOT of practice modifying, adjusting, and then jumping back in.
If you've been around here a while, you've probably seen me try this program before and I was never quite ready to commit to it 100%, but this summer I challenged myself to just "try the first month and see what happens".
Well, I started seeing results. I felt stronger, I felt better, and my body was obviously loving what I was doing. So I decided to push through the second month...and then the third. :)
This has been the BIGGEST physical difference I've seen with any of our programs. I've done a lot of work around releasing my emotional connection to any numbers associated with my body, so I decided to challenge my comfort zone a little and take my measurements at the beginning and the end.
When I took my final measurements this week...I immediately took them again just to be sure I hadn't done them backwards or something. (I won't share exact numbers publicly because I don't want to encourage any kind of comparison, but if you're curious to know what changed for me, feel free to contact me privately and I'm happy to talk about it!)
Nope. It's legit. It's real. And it all happened because I was fueling myself with nutrient-dense, beneficial food and doing workouts I love and was excited for; it wasn't instant and it wasn't because I was killing myself in the gym.
How is T25 structured?
The first five weeks are your Alpha round workouts, designed to build a solid foundation of fitness--no matter what level you're starting at. The next five are the Beta workouts which take you to the next level. Finally, the program has four weeks of Gamma workouts, which introduces smaller dumbbells for more resistance. I only used five lbs and occasionally ten.
The "25" part of the title comes from the fact that the workouts are only 25 minutes long (including warm-up). During the first two rounds, Fridays are scheduled double days, but one of the workouts can also be completed on Saturday. Otherwise your workouts are Monday - Friday with a rest day on Saturday and active stretching (yoga or the Stretch workout) on Sunday.
The 3 Week Yoga Retreat came out while I was doing the Beta round, so I often did my T25 workout first thing in the morning and then yoga to fight the mid-afternoon slump. I also always replaced the Stretch workout with Yoga because it fit my weekend mood better. :)
What is the nutrition like?
The portion control container system is standard across most Beachbody programs now, so I just chose to keep following it. I kept my meals pretty balanced with something like fruit and protein powder after my workout, oatmeal mid-morning, salad or leftovers at lunch, Shakeology in the afternoon, and then a dinner of veggies, protein, and carbs -- or tortilla pizza, if it's the weekend. If I'm hungry after dinner, I'll also have some yogurt. My house is dry, unless on special occasions, so while there were a few Kahlua-ice cream-Shakeology nights and wine when I was in Dallas, I really didn't drink.
About a week or two into the Beta round, I stepped up the amount I was eating because my body was working a little harder and I noticed myself getting hungrier. Then when life happened in the middle of Gamma round and I stopped working out for a week and a half, I listened to my body and ate the amount that was comfortable. I love the container system because it is SO flexible and easy to find a way that works for you!
What do I need to do T25?
Since so much of it is bodyweight, you could easily do this program with one set of light weights (~5lbs or two gallons of water if you're desperate ;)).
After Alpha round, I also invested in the Beachbody Performance line. I wanted to help my muscles rebuild and who doesn't want a little more energy? It made a HUGE difference! A more in-depth review is coming next week, so be on the look out for that!
How much is T25?
This is the BEST part (and honestly, why I even started this!): it's free with your Beachbody On Demand subscription -- which is just about $13/month! Other free programs on BOD: 21 Day Fix Extreme and the Yoga Retreat, as well as countless others!
Even better news: your first month of BOD is free. So. There's that.
Anything else I should know?
Challenge yourself! This program was a challenge for me. It was a long ass commitment...and it paid off HUGE. This is my new soulmate program and I think I might come back to it in December.
This program really is for all fitness levels. The modifier is GREAT.
